From the Mayor's Desk

A community is like a family. And, as families experience the high’s and low’s of day-to-day living, the Borough of Delta is going through some exciting times and a few challenging moments. The winds of change are in the air for our community. The Base Realignment and Closure decision to increase the presence of Aberdeen Proving Ground in our national defense effort will certainly have an effect on Delta Borough. With planners expecting around 24,000 new jobs in the next few years at the military base just 20 miles south of us; we can expect housing, employment, and increased businesses to be part of our future. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The balance we will seek in our community is to keep what is good about small town living, yet, at the same time, adjust to necessary changes. Our Borough is rich in history and provides residents with a slower-paced, comfortable living style. We truly enjoy that way of life; nevertheless, we realize the importance of enhancing our community, our businesses, our infrastructure, our streets, and our sidewalks. As is the case with every family, the family of Delta must go through some growing pains and some adjustments.

So, we ask of you – long-time residents and relative newcomers – let’s continue to work together as a team to make a great community even better. Continue to come visiting us as we undergo our extensive Streetscape effort. We think you’ll like what you see.

With warmest regards,

Mayor Jim Mason
